2016 SWFL Sustainability Summit Keynote Speaker Mary Lou Benecke
A dynamic and engaging speaker, Mary Lou Benecke’s leadership experience draws keen interest from regional business development leaders. Formerly corporate vice president of Public Affairs & Corporate Communications for Dow Corning Corporation, Mary Lou Benecke’s leadership experience includes global government relations and advocacy, corporate branding & reputation management, media and employee engagement. She also chaired the company’s corporate foundation.
Mary Lou has a special interest in building regional business alliances to encourage economic development. She helped establish and is the immediate past chair of the Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance, a collaborative organization focused on economic growth, led by regional leaders whose business and relationships cross the boundaries of four mid-Michigan counties.
Mary Lou is an award-winning business writer and spent a considerable part of her career as an executive speech writer. Her career path also includes a variety of pioneering work options including a management level job share and several years of creative part-time and flex-time arrangements – a credit to an innovative employer and a mutual commitment to work-life balance.
Mary Lou has served on several boards including the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce, Saginaw Future, Saginaw Valley State University Board of Fellows, the East Central Bay American Red Cross, Bay Sail and the Delta College Foundation. She has participated on the economic development committee for the Bay Area Chamber and is an enthusiastic supporter of “Uptown Bay City,” a revitalized riverfront mixed use development.
Currently, Mary Lou serves as Special Assistant to the President of Central Michigan University, consulting on community relations for the recently established CMU College of Medicine.
